Garden Maintenance Tips

Well the year is well under way and entertaining friends and family has slowed for now. February is a great time to prepare your garden for Autumn on the Gold Coast. Firstly we’ll start with an all year round maintenance must.. weed and pest management, if you don’t already have a regular weed management program now is a great time to start. Citrus tree’s will respond well during Autumn if they're pruned and fertilized during February’. Mulching is also a great idea around root clumps especially. If your planning to harvest fresh home grown vegetables during winter, now is the time to plant. Broccoli and Brussels sprouts are a great choice and will thrive during the autumn growing season. What’s a beautiful garden without a nice lush lawn to go with it ? raising the mower height will allow lush growth to last longer as the weather cools. As always frequent mowing is best as well as mulching clippings back into the lawn. Watering is best done before 9am. This is because it gives the water a chance to soak into the ground. Watering in the heat of the day is unfortunately wasteful due to high amounts of evaporation.
